Kandi Buress Responds to Critics of Her Gospel Song After Just Releasing Adult Sex Toy Line

by Stephen BrownFebruary 21, 2013

Kandi Burruss, the singer-songwriter and producer, is responding to criticism after her recent release of the gospel song “Prayed Up” featuring pastor and gospel singer Marvin Sapp. The issue that most Christians are having is that Kandi has just released a sex toy line called “Bedroom Kandi” , and  hosts a no holds barred Late-night Adult show called “Kandi Koated Nights” where she talks about all things pertaining to sex.

In reponse to the controversy, Burruss’ took to her own Instagram account that became number one on iTunes gospel charts Monday.

“I knew when I decided to do it that I would be criticized. That’s to be expected,” Burruss wrote on the photograph sharing website. “I am honest about who I am.  My great grandfather and my grandfather were Bishops in The Church of God Holiness.  I believe in God but I have always struggled with the rules of the church, just like a lot of people.”

msaeli @kandiburruss great song, but I’m just curious, why do you make a song about staying prayed up while you wallow in sin? You’re living unmarried with your boyfriend (man)? You sell naughty Bedroom Kandi. Maybe that’s why you need to stay prayed up? Before everyone beats me up with their words, I want you to know I love you and your music, but this song is contradictory to your current lifestyle. Not sure if you’re Christian, but if so, be an example to your daughter Only! Make sure she knows her worth and understand her value, so easy she’ll receive what God has for her. If you don’t mind, some reading for you (Bible: Romans 6, 1Corinthians 7, Thessalonians 4:25 to end) God bless

princess_of_va Stop shacking up w/ Todd

candina2ral There’s nothing wrong with making a profit its how you advertise it…. It’s nothing wrong with praising God is your relationship with Him. Yes we are human and have wants and needs but if you display yourself as this ultra-sexual woman for years then that’s what youre [sic] labeled as ((REMEMBER)) image is everything

fashionplusses Fake as hell

Burruss is not without her supporters, though:

caramelnikki @msaeli I’m a fan of kandi but not a huge fan but I want to ask u a question ? Just bc she says she prayed up tht mean she suppose to be perfect? We all sin the only diff. With it is tht she is a celebrity.. I pray and go to church all the time and I sin so does tht mean I’m not worthy for prayer? Just bc someone sin different than u does tht make u a better person? I dnt judge anyone by how they live there life I’m just trying live mine… Does tht make me a bad person? I’m just curious??

mrsjj09 @msaeli John 8:7 Let he who is without Sin, cast the 1st Stone at her. @kandiburruss Stay Blessed!!

black_barbie_30 Love your song…watching you and Marvin Sapp love it!!!! Bump what ppl say we only have one judge. I always was told God uses imperfect ppl….be bless you deserve all His blessings!!!!

Meanwhile Sapp, who is a minister, seemed to have left any judgements to be made on Burruss with his master, the performer wrote on his Facebook page:

“Been in services all day and didn’t get the opportunity to see #RHOA but I wanna thank @Kandi for sharing her heart through song in a different genre and asking me to be apart of that process… #gogetit at ITunes now……”

The singer’s new song also received backing from the likes of Sapp and singer Fantasia Barrino.  Barrino called the song nothing short of a masterpiece. “It’s a great song & my MD Javon Hill has his hands in this project,” Barrino tweeted. “Together he @kandi & Marvin Sapp have created a masterpiece!”
The track is very relevant to what Kandi has gone through over the last few years, especially having to deal with the murder of her first fiance AJ Jewell. I like it because it’s positive and it’s a testament to her struggles and how she was able to get through her tough times. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to all of the negativity that we are bombarded with when we turn on the radio.
