For over a decade, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Drones by the military and the CIA has been extremely controversial. Many have questioned the ethical ramifications of unmanned robot killers patrolling the skys. Now more than ever, UAV’s have been placed in the spotlight as one of the leaders behind the U.S. drone program, John Brennan, gets ready to face confirmation hearings to head the CIA. PBS’ show NOVA will take an unprecedented look into the secret world of  these flying robots with a documentary titled “Rise of the Drones.”

The Documentary will examine  controversies in both of the military & civilian side. From a military standpoint are drone strikes in accordance with international law? is the military killing too many civilians? From a civilian standpoint can citizens’ privacy be respected when there are thousands of eyes in the sky?  “The worry is that in two to  three years we will have 30,000 drones crisscrossing the sky accumulating all this information.”

For the first time on camera, NOVA will interview University of Pennsylvania roboticist, Vijay Kumar, the ‘Father’ of the most deadly drone in the US Arsenal, The Predator.

The full documentary will air Wed. Jan 23rd at 9 p.m. ET onPBS
