Bear Grylls Returns on Discovery Channel International, Then Will Go To New Contract with NBC

Good news for television! After a highly publicized contract dispute last year caused Bear Grylls to walk away from TV leaving fans distraught, it appears now that Discovery Communications, and the survivalist star, have patched things up. The network announced that Grylls  is set to host a new reality series called “Ultimate Survivors” for the media giant’s 217 international markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
According to a release, “Ultimate Survivors” will be a six-part miniseries chronicling true stories of extreme survival – with Grylls reenacting some of these scenarios and teaching viewers at home the skills needed to endure. The series will also feature interviews and archive footage with survivors.
“I am super excited to be working with Discovery again – the channel where the Man Vs Wild journey began,” said Grylls in a statement. “Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivors, and any future endeavors, will be intense—but that’s where the fun is! Man Vs. Wild took me to some of the toughest climates and terrains out there, and this new series is an exciting evolution of that. The aim is to follow incredible real-life survival stories and demonstrate dynamic life-saving know-how along the way.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Bear back to the Discovery fold,” said Luis Silberwasser, chief content officer and executive VP at Discovery Networks International. “He is a true game-changer in the survival genre, integral in shaping it into the programming powerhouse that it is today. We are now poised to push the limits even further for our international audience.”
Grylls announced that he would be making his first-ever debut on network television as host of the NBC reality competition series “Get Out Alive.” The show, which is set to debut later this year, will have Grylls guiding teams who are tested in the wilderness through various tasks and missions.
